Mothers Day in Thailand
Date 2009-10-31 | Views  470

Thailands mothers day falls on the 12th August every year as this is the Queens Birthday, who is regarded as being the mother of all Thai people. It is also a Thai "Bank Holiday"

The morning starts by giving alms to the monks. Thai children go to school and prepare flowers and speeches. Then they kneel before their mothers, giving them flowers (usually jasmine) and give their speech or just simply express their gratitude and say how much their mother means to them.

If the school event is not possible, then they go to their mother's house (aunts, grandmas), show their respect by giving jasmine garlands and do the "krub" or "Ka" (words usually at the end of a phrase, depending on gender, used to show respect) to their mothers feet.
